Notes: Refer back to the original source for numbers estimated by the United Nations Statistics Division. (numbers with * symbol)

- Direct use geothermal represents heat used directly for district heating, agriculture etc. without a commercial transaction taking place

- Direct use of solar thermal represents heat used for the production of domestic hot water or for the seasonal heating of swimming pools (e.g. flat plate collectors, mainly of the thermosyphon type) without a commercial transaction taking place.
